Chandelier Removal, Transport and Custom Crating

This is a specialized service involving careful electrical disconnection, secure lowering, custom box or crate fabrication, protective packing, and transport preparation. Materials are made specifically for your fixture and are not reusable.

  • Careful electrical disconnection and secure lowering of the chandelier.
  • Partial or full disassembly as needed to reduce handling risk.
  • Custom box or crate fabrication using new, non-reusable materials sized to your fixture.
  • Protective suspension, internal support, padding, and transport preparation.
  • Optional reinstallation, reassembly, or delivery services when quoted separately.

Measuring Options

Option A

Onsite Measuring Recommended

We visit your site, set up ladders when appropriate, and record height, width, and depth. These measurements are used to fabricate the crate and are the safest option for accurate build planning.

Option B

Customer-Supplied Measurements at Own Risk

You may provide dimensions, but inaccurate measurements can make a box or crate unusable. If a build is based on incorrect measurements, materials and labor may be forfeited and a new build may be billed separately.

Important: Due to the custom nature and liability involved, full payment is required in advance. Packaging materials are custom-built, not reusable, and not returnable. If this service does not align with your budget, we understand; this is specialized work and not every project is the right fit.

Corrugated Boxing with Internal Wood Support

Typical Range: $800 – $1,500+

A heavy-duty corrugated box reinforced with a custom wooden framework. The chandelier is suspended inside so it cannot strike the sides, with foam, padding, and anti-vibration packing.

  • Lighter weight and lower shipping or handling cost than full wood crating.
  • Custom wood hang points help keep the fixture centered.
  • Best for local transport, short-distance moves, storage, and moderate-size fixtures.
  • Still requires custom fabrication, careful handling, and protective packing.

Custom Solid Wood Crating

Typical Range: $1,200 – $2,500+

A fully enclosed wood crate designed for greater protection during longer-distance movement, rougher handling environments, freight scenarios, or high-value chandelier storage and transport.

  • Recommended for large, fragile, antique, Murano glass, or multi-tier fixtures.
  • May include reinforced wood framing, plywood, blocking, internal suspension, and palletized construction.
  • Best when the fixture may be handled by movers, warehouses, or freight personnel.
  • ISPM-15 or export-related requirements must be discussed in advance if needed.

Chandelier Crating and Packing Pricing Expectations

Chandelier packing and crating is a custom-built, labor-intensive service involving internal support structures, protective suspension, careful on-site handling, and materials selected for the fixture. This is not standard moving or basic boxing.

  • Small or simple fixtures: $400 – $800 when the scope is limited and the fixture is suitable.
  • Most chandeliers: $800 – $1,500 for typical custom boxing or packing projects.
  • Large, fragile, antique, or specialty fixtures: $1,200 – $2,500+ depending on the build requirements.

Minimum project pricing generally starts at $800. If you are looking for basic or low-cost packing, this service may not be the right fit. We specialize in protecting delicate, high-value fixtures where proper handling is critical.

How It Works

1

Assessment

Share photos, dimensions, ceiling height, fixture condition, origin, destination, and whether the chandelier is installed or already removed.

2

Build and Pack

We fabricate the support frame, box, or crate; suspend or block the fixture; and add padding and vibration control.

3

Label and Load

The package should be labeled clearly and handled upright. Movers or carriers must be instructed not to tilt, stack, or side-lift the crate.

4

Transport or Store

The completed box or crate can be used for storage, local transport, or third-party pickup depending on the quoted scope.

Important Shipping and Responsibility Notice

Not all chandelier boxes are designed for third-party shipping or freight transport. Please specify your needs in advance so we can build the correct solution for storage, local transport, moving-company handling, or freight pickup.

  • Temporary storage or local delivery: A full hardwood crate may not be necessary for short-term storage or local transport.
  • Freight shipping crates: May require pallet construction, forklift compatibility, reinforced plywood, and additional labeling or handling requirements.
  • Third-party shipping: We do not control carrier handling once the crate leaves our custody.

We do not arrange or manage third-party shipping. Local and statewide delivery using our own vehicle must be quoted separately. Responsibility transfers to the customer and carrier once the box or crate leaves our custody.

Antique, Vintage and Pre-Owned Chandeliers

Antique, vintage, used, resale, and pre-owned chandeliers often require additional care because their condition is not always fully known before removal, transport, cleaning, packing, or installation.

  • Customer is responsible for verifying that all parts, crystals, arms, canopies, chain, hardware, and decorative components are included.
  • Customer is responsible for disclosing known damage, prior repairs, missing parts, electrical issues, or seller representations.
  • Used and vintage fixtures are accepted in as-is condition.
  • Additional packing, crating, repair evaluation, cleaning, or labor may be required before the fixture can be safely transported or installed.

Fragile Fixture Liability Waiver

This notice applies to chandelier removal, disassembly, transport, packing, crating, storage, or reinstallation services involving fragile, older, pre-owned, antique, crystal, Murano glass, or specialty fixtures.

Customers acknowledge that breakage may occur, particularly with delicate materials such as crystal arms, bowls, bobeches, finials, prisms, or decorative components. These fixtures may be structurally compromised due to age, prior installation, concealed defects, old repairs, or prior damage.

By approving this work, you agree to hold our company harmless for damage, defects, or missing components related to fragile fixtures unless a different written agreement is signed before work begins. If your chandelier is of significant financial or sentimental value, we recommend confirming coverage with your homeowner's insurer before removal or transport.

Driver and Mover Handling Guide

How to Move Chandelier Crates Safely

Our crates may suspend the chandelier frame inside a shock-buffered support structure. To keep the fixture centered and reduce damage risk, always lift straight up and never tilt the crate or box.

Important: Tipping a suspended crate can cause the chandelier to swing inside its internal hang-frame. That swing can bend arms, stress wiring, or crack crystal drops. Keep the crate vertical during loading, unloading, moving, and storage.

DO Lift Straight Up

Lift straight up
1
Use a pallet jack, forklift, or lift-gate.
Keep forks centered under the pallet or base and lift evenly.
2
Keep the crate vertical.
Raise slowly and avoid sudden starts, stops, or drops.
3
Secure from the base only.
Strap from the pallet or base when applicable, not around the crate walls or lid.

DON'T Tilt or Pry

Do not tilt
1
Do not tip to roll the crate.
Tipping transfers force to the internal support and hang-points.
2
Do not pry from the sides.
Lift from the base only, never from crate walls or lid edges.
3
Do not strap over the crate body.
Side pressure can deform the internal support frame.

Handling Guidance and Labels

If you are using a third-party carrier, share these instructions with the dispatcher and include them in driver notes.

Driver Notes Copy/Paste

  • Crate contains a suspended chandelier. Keep vertical at all times.
  • Lift from pallet/base only using pallet jack, forklift, lift-gate, or approved team lift.
  • Do not side-lift. Do not tilt, roll, stack, drop, or slide.
  • Use straps secured to pallet/base only. Do not strap around crate walls or lid.
  • Move slowly to avoid internal swing.

Chandelier Crating and Shipping FAQ

What is the difference between boxing and wood crating?
Corrugated boxing uses a heavy-duty box with a custom internal support structure. Wood crating uses a more protective wood structure and may be better for large, fragile, antique, or freight-handled chandeliers.
Do you arrange third-party shipping?
No. We can prepare a chandelier for transport, storage, or third-party pickup when quoted, but we do not arrange or manage third-party shipping carriers.
Can you pick up a chandelier from an antique store or seller?
Sometimes. The fixture must be safely accessible, properly documented, and ready for professional handling. We may decline pickup if the fixture is unstable, incomplete, improperly packed, or unclear in condition.
Are packing materials reusable?
No. Custom packing, support structures, boxes, and crates are built for the specific fixture and are generally not reusable or returnable.
Can you reinstall the chandelier later?
Yes, reinstallation can often be scheduled and quoted separately. Storage, transport, reassembly, parts, or additional handling may affect the quote.
