Chandelier Lift Service and Diagnostic Visits

When an existing chandelier lift will not operate, has never worked, moves unexpectedly, is missing its key or control, or is an older or unfamiliar brand, the first step is an on-site access and diagnostic visit. This service allows us to travel to the property, access the attic or lift location, inspect the existing equipment, and determine what may be wrong.

Diagnostic Service Does Not Guarantee Repair

The diagnostic fee pays for the service visit itself. It covers our travel to the property, attic or ceiling-area access when reasonably accessible, time spent working around heat, insulation, limited access, and existing equipment, and our effort to identify the cause of the problem and attempt a practical repair when possible.

Payment of the diagnostic fee does not mean the lift can or will be repaired. The existing lift may be obsolete, discontinued, mechanically failed, improperly installed, missing proprietary controls or keys, damaged beyond practical repair, unsupported by the manufacturer, or in need of complete replacement.

Non-Refundable Access and Diagnostic Fee

Starting at $395

The fee is non-refundable and is earned for reserving the appointment, traveling to the location, accessing the attic or lift equipment, and performing the inspection and diagnostic work.

The starting fee generally includes:

  • Travel within our standard service area
  • Review of customer-supplied photos or video before arrival
  • Reasonably accessible attic or ceiling-area entry
  • Inspection of the lift, cable, mounting, controls, visible wiring, and related components
  • Reasonable diagnostic testing when it can be performed safely
  • An attempt to identify the failure and make a minor repair or adjustment when practical
  • Up to one hour on site

Additional approved labor: $135 per hour. Parts, specialty controls, replacement keys, additional technicians, electrical modifications, structural work, chandelier removal, lift removal, and replacement equipment are not included.

Situations That May Not Be Repairable

  • The lift is an older, discontinued, or unidentified brand
  • No operating key, wall control, remote, or proprietary switch is available
  • The lift has never operated since the current owner purchased the property
  • The manufacturer no longer supplies parts or technical support
  • The motor, brake, gearbox, cable drum, cable, or control system has failed
  • The lift was improperly installed or lacks adequate structural support
  • The chandelier or lift cannot be tested safely
  • Repair would cost more than replacing the system

In these circumstances, the visit may result in a recommendation for removal or replacement rather than repair.

What We Need Before Scheduling

  • Video showing the chandelier and its current position
  • Photos of the wall switch, key switch, remote, or control area
  • Any manufacturer name, label, model number, or serial number
  • Photos of the lift equipment in the attic, if safely available
  • A description of whether the lift has ever worked
  • Details about any recent movement, noise, lowering, or electrical activity
  • Information about attic access, insulation, temperature, and working clearance

When Replacement Is the Better Option

Older lift systems can become impractical or impossible to repair, particularly when keys, controls, replacement parts, wiring diagrams, or manufacturer support are unavailable. If the existing lift cannot be safely or economically repaired, we can evaluate replacement with a modern compatible system.

Important Safety Notice

If a chandelier has lowered, shifted, or moved without being operated, keep everyone away from the area beneath it and discontinue use of the lift. Do not repeatedly test an unknown or malfunctioning system. A loss of power may stop electrical operation, but it does not guarantee that a failed brake, cable, gearbox, mounting system, or other mechanical component will hold the chandelier safely.

Chandelier Lift Diagnostic FAQ

Is the $395 fee refundable if the lift cannot be repaired?
No. The diagnostic fee is non-refundable because it compensates us for scheduling the visit, traveling to the property, accessing the attic or lift area, working around heat and insulation, inspecting the equipment, and attempting to diagnose the problem. It is not contingent on a successful repair.
Does the diagnostic fee include repair parts?
No. Parts, replacement keys or controls, specialty components, additional labor, electrical modifications, lift removal, and replacement equipment are separate.
Can you repair a lift when no key or control is available?
Possibly, but not always. Some systems use proprietary keys, switches, or controls that may no longer be available. We can inspect the system and identify possible options, but the absence of the original operating control may make repair impractical or require replacement.
Can you repair an old or off-brand chandelier lift?
We can inspect and attempt to diagnose it, but repair depends on the lift's condition, design, available documentation, replacement parts, and whether it can be tested safely. Some older or off-brand systems must be replaced.
What happens if the lift needs replacement?
